Crain Communications acquires Mercom’s digital health business – Crain’s Chicago Business

Crain Communications, the Detroit-based media company and parent of Crain’s Chicago Business, has purchased the digital health care division of Mercom Capital Group.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Crain is acquiring all of Mercom’s digital health research assets, including its funding and merger and acquisition reports, along with subscriptions, databases and newsletters. The entity provides digital health care financial data and research.

The acquisition is intended to complement the offerings of Modern Healthcare, Crain’s health care industry publication, and help the magazine report more broadly on digital and technologically focused health care companies.

“Our combined offerings will inform and connect the entire digital health ecosystem, enabling improved patient care, a greater understanding of regulatory and funding decisions relative to digital health technologies and in-depth analysis of investment trends and opportunities,” said Modern Healthcare Publisher Fawn Lopez in a statement.

With the acquisition, Modern Healthcare has launched Digital Health Business & Technology, a digital media brand that covers news, data and insights on digital health care technologies, including hardware and software products. It will also cover finance, venture capital and mergers and acquisitions.

Modern Healthcare will continue to publish Mercom’s digital health funding, mergers and acquisitions reports, and newsletters.

“This strategic acquisition will allow Modern Healthcare to enhance our data portfolio, strengthen our value proposition and further empower health care leaders to succeed,” said KC Crain, the president and CEO of Crain Communications, in a statement.

The acquisition comes about a month after Crain purchased Green Market Report, a New York-based digital media company that covers financial news in the cannabis sector.

Crain’s portfolio now consists of 21 brands in the U.S., Europe and Asia, including Ad Age and Automotive News, as well as regional business publications in Chicago, ClevelandDetroit and New York.

Across its brands, Crain reaches 78 million readers globally and employs more than 650 people across 10 offices.
