What happened with Southwest Airlines? Breaking down the travel delays

CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) — Southwest Airlines has canceled or delayed thousands of flights, leaving customers stranded after a weekend plagued with major service disruptions.

More than 1,900 flights were canceled by the airline over the weekend, according to the online tracker FlightAware. The Dallas-based airline blamed air traffic control issues and bad weather for weekend “operational challenges” that resulted in the cancellations. On Monday, Southwest canceled more than 430 flights and delayed 1,517 flights.

Former Cook County correctional officer investigated for allegedly allowing prostitution in his suburban home

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — A former Cook County corrections officer is the subject of a federal investigation after being accused of allowing prostitution inside his suburban home.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the officer is accused of allowing at least three prostitutes to use his home in Crestwood for business in 2019 and 2020.

Elk roaming Colorado with tire around neck for 2 years freed

PINE, Colo. (AP) — Wildlife officials in Colorado say an elusive elk that has been wandering the hills with a car tire around its neck for at least two years has finally been freed of the obstruction.

The 4 1/2-year-old, 600-pound (270-kilogram) bull elk was spotted near Pine Junction, southwest of Denver, on Saturday evening and tranquilized, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Officers with the agency had to cut off the elk’s five-point antlers to remove the encumbrance because they couldn’t slice through the steel in the bead of the tire.
