Meet St. Xavier football player Tyler Boggs, The Courier Journal’s Athlete of the Week – Courier Journal

Tyler Boggs was a little bit all over the place for the second-ranked St. Xavier Tigers in their 18-16 playoff win over Manual last week. The junior safety finished with seven tackles tackles and also had a late-game interception that helped seal the win. For that, he was chosen as this week’s Athlete of the Week and sat down to chat with the CJ for a few minutes. Here’s what he shared:

He credits early morning lifts for postseason success

As one of the last football teams standing so far, Boggs points towards team preparation that started last winter that has allowed the Tigers to make this run in the postseason. Specifically, he points to the crack-of-dawn weight room sessions with powering the team’s momentum.

“We’ve been working since January of last year doing all the 6 a.m. lifts,” said Boggs. “It feels good because work’s getting put in for us. Right now it’s working out, and we just got to keep going.”

Favorite football memory is going to Soldier Field with father

One of Boggs’ favorite football memories happened when Boggs and his father traveled to Chicago to watch their Bears take on the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 9, 2018, which was that week’s Sunday Night Football game on NBC. The Bears defeated the Rams 15-6 and Boggs pointed to the play of Chicago’s DBs as his personal highlights.

“The Bears’ defense had four interceptions,” said Boggs. “My favorite player, Eddie Jackson, played a great game. The crowd was nothing like anything I’ve ever heard before. Sunday Night, Soldier Field, it’s nothing better.”

He’s a bit of a world traveler

Speaking of travel, Boggs has done quite a bit of it, despite his young . In addition to Chicago, he’s traveled with his family to California, Colorado and Nevada domestically, as well Jamaica for some international miles. If he had has pick of his next destination, Boggs said he would like to visit Africa, though he’s not set on a country or region quite yet.

“One of my friends went there a long time ago,” said Boggs. “That place just seems like it would be awesome. He said he had a great experience there.”
