Top-seeded Sun to face No. 6 Chicago Sky in WNBA Playoff Semfinals – CT Post

Following the conclusion of Sunday’s second round of the WNBA Playoffs, the semifinals bracket is set with the No. 1 seed Connecticut Sun set to host No. 6 Chicago Sky in a best of five-game series, starting Tuesday at Mohegan Sun at 8 p.m.

The Sun, which earned a double-bye into the semifinals with a league-best record of 26-6, went 1-2 in its three-game series with the Sky during the regular season this summer. The Sky beat Connecticut in back-to-back games in Chicago (81-75 on June 17 and 91-81 on June 19), before the Sun defeated the Sky at home at Mohegan (74-58) two weeks later.

The winner of the semifinal series will advance to the Finals, scheduled to begin on October 10, against the winner of the semifinal series of No. 5 Phoenix-vs-No. 2 Las Vegas. The Mercury advanced to the semifinals after defeating the Storm, 80-85 in overtime on Sunday with the return of Diana Taurasi after she missed the previous five games with an ankle injury.

Chicago (17-16) clinched its spot in the semifinals after defeating No. 3 Minnesota, 89-76, on Sunday. The Sky advanced to Sunday’s second round after beating No. 7 Dallas, 81-64, during Thursday’s first round.

A Possible Finale?

Following No. 5 Phoenix’s win over No. 4 Seattle on Sunday, Taurasi and fellow UConn great Sue Bird joined ESPN’s Holly Rowe at half court to exchange jerseys. While neither has confirmed any rumors on the topic, Sunday’s matchup could have possibly been the final time the two met on the WNBA court with talk of Bird potentially retiring following the 2021 season. Bird, 40, has yet to make an official decision on her future in the W, but was met with “one more year” chants from Seattle fans during her interview with Rowe.
