The University of St. Francis is offering students who plan to attend classes on campus this fall a $500 COVID Vaccination Grant if they can show proof they’ve been vaccinated.

The private college, which serves 3,600 students between its campuses in Joliet and Albuquerque, N.M., will not require students to be vaccinated like other schools, such as Loyola University Chicago, DePaul University, Columbia College Chicago, and the University of Illinois. The school expects 1,300 students in person in Joliet and 120 in Albuquerque.

“As we look forward as a campus community to a much closer-to-normal academic year, COVID-19 vaccination is our best and readily available tool to safeguard ourselves and those around us,” Eric Wignall, vice president for admissions, said in a press release. “As an added incentive all fully vaccinated on-campus students will receive a $500 COVID Vaccination Grant for the Fall 2021 semester.”

The grant is available to full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students living on or commuting to campus. Students must show proof of vaccination before the beginning of fall semester, which starts Aug. 23.

“Our USF Crisis Management Team continues to strongly encourage all students and employees to get vaccinated,” Wignall said in the release.

Which of the three vaccines a student chooses would determine the deadline. Students getting the Moderna vaccine should get their first dose by July 25, Pfizer’s first dose by Aug. 1 and the J&J dose by Aug. 8,Wignall said in the release.
